Sahaj yoga: Master key

Our ancient heritage is the repository of several techniques which come to our rescue in today's stressful world.

Sahaj Yoga is one of them. It finds mention in the discourses of Guru Nanak, Sankaracharya, Kabir and Sant Dyaneshwar. It is invaluable for one's mental, physical, psychological and spiritual well-being. Mata Nirmala Devi has popularised the technique in over 90 countries and has helped weary souls come to terms with stress and suffering.

Sahaj yoga is the kundalini, the divine energy, which lies below the sacrum at the bottom of the vertebral column, which when stimulated ascends through the sushumna nadi, the spine, and corresponds to the parasympathetic nervous system. There is a spontaneous awakening and the union of our primordial energy with the all-pervading power of the divine. The awakening of the kundalini allows divine energy to pass through the six chakras or energy centres which take care of the physical, mental, psychosomatic and spiritual aspects of the body.

In today's fast moving world we often overstretch ourselves to achieve our goals. Stress is its side effect and it adversely affects our body system. But Sahaj Yoga is an easy way to distress ourselves. It makes us experience love and compassion.

What does Sahaj Yoga mean? Saha means with us, ja means born and yoga is union. Sahaj Yoga is therefore spontaneous. Through it the residual divine energy, which resides in sacrum bone is awakened and energised. There are three nadis in our body, namely ida, the sympathetic nervous system on the left which controls our temperament; pingala, the sympathetic nervous system on the right which controls our physical and mental well-being; and sushumna nadi, the parasympathetic nervous system at the centre which has chakras to give us our qualitative attributes. If a person activates the chakras in this nadi, he would attain spiritual ascent and enjoy life to the fullest.

Sahaj Yoga considers six chakras, namely mooladhar chakra, swadhi sthan chakra, nabhi chakra, anahat chakra, shuddhi chakra, agnya (not a chakra) and sahasrura chakra. All these correspond to a particular place on hand and to a particular element of the universe. Each is attributed with special qualities.

The first chakra — Mooladhar Chakra — depicts the element earth and attributes qualities of innocence and wisdom. The swadhi sthan chakra represents the element fire and is responsible for creativity and divine knowledge. Nabhi chakra, representing water, gives us sustenance and dharma. Anahat chakra represents air and attributes the qualities of love, maryada, and fearlessness. It awakens the atma or soul. The shuddhi chakra representing the element ether is associated with divine diplomacy. It maintains integration between mind and speech. Speech is important and a proper coordination between thought and speech assures better communication. Agnya is for forgiveness and resurrection, representing the element light.

If we are tense we cannot utilise the full potential of mind. Tension and anger have to be controlled. If this area of the spine is awakened, one can control one's anger. The last chakra is the sahasrura chakra and represents all the five elements of the universe. Its place is the centre of the palm. This chakra attributes the qualities of collective consciousness and integration.

Sahaj yoga is a master key to solving the problems of the mind and the body. One has to learn to awaken one's kundalini to experience happiness and enjoy the fruits of Sahaj yoga.

Signs of a perfect s*x partner...!!

"Do I have a perfect sex partner? If not, how can I get one?' Indeed a million dollar question that hovers in the minds of most couples!

Though it might be hard to find an absolute sexually compatible partner, but most couples don't even know the traits that they or their better half should posses to be a perfect sex partner.

Having an outstanding sex partner takes a huge burden off an individual's mind. It allows them concentrate more on the act, instead of thinking too much about whether they're making love to the right person or not. When it comes to a perfect sex partner, attributes like height, weight, age, behaviour, choices etc take a backseat. What matters is that he/she suits you and shares an amazing chemistry in the bedroom.

Dr. Kirti Mishra, a clinical physiologist and a relationship expert elucidates, "The idea of a perfect sex partner varies for different individuals, but some common traits like sexually active, experimental in bed, hygienically sound etc are a must, as they are the key for finding sexual bliss. Most couples today are working on their personal attributes to match their partner's prerequisites and thus become a perfect sex partner."

Apart from good looks, a hot body and a heady sex drive, let's explore the less superficial elements of what makes a perfect sex partner. And if your partner bears these qualities in bed, you can unquestionably boast of having a great sex partner...

1. Hygiene holds the key
Everyone likes making love to a clean and tidy partner, so good hygiene holds great importance in a sexual relationship. Ensure that your partner is well manicured with a fully waxed body to ensure a higher comfort level. Too much hair on body makes it uncomfortable to enjoy each inch of your lover. So look out for a soft and clean skin in your partner complemented with a nice smell, as a bad body odour is a huge turn-off.

Hot tip : "During sexual intimacy, everyone wants a hygienically fit partner, as this not only enhances the comfort level, but lets you enjoy the act more. So make sure you seem as fresh as if you have just stepped out of the shower before getting into bed. Sexual scents and aphrodisiacal fragrances are a good choice," recommends Dr. Devesh Roy, a sex therapist.

2. Oral sex shouldn't be an issue
You know what pleases you, so a wonderful partner to have in bed is one who doesn't hesitate going out of the way to give you that pleasure. If not routinely, your partner should be ready to please you orally as per their own mood and comfort level. While no one is perfectly adept at the oral act, but a partner who tries learning the little tricks to arouse you can surely add magic to your love life.

Hot tip : "Don't wait for your partner to tell you or give hints each time they feel like experiencing oral pleasure, instead make it a part of the love making act. It is quite safe and enjoyable as the actual act, so don't be unwilling to go for it," states Dr. Deepak Gupta, a sex expert.

US Man Discovers He Has Pea Plant Growing In His Lung

Ron Sveden, a retired teacher from Brewster, Massachusetts in the US was astonished to discover that what he thought was a tumor growing in his lung was actually a plant that had sprouted from an inhaled pea.

75-year old Sveden said he was told the pea seed had split and sprouted in his lung. It was about half an inch long (about 1.25 cm), which "is a pretty big thing", he said according to a news report from NBC.

Sveden had been short of breath for several months withemphysema, one of a group of diseases called chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or COPD, when he took a turn for the worse a few months ago in May.

He said he was coughing a lot and feeling listless, so his wife Nancy called 911 and he was rushed to hospital where doctors took X-rays and found that his left lung had collapsed and showing a grainy spot on X-ray.

There followed two more weeks of tests, and Sveden had prepared himself for a diagnosis of lung cancer, but all the tests were negative for cancer. Then one doctor discovered he had a plant growing in his lung, reported NBC.

The doctors told him he must have eaten a pea that "went down the wrong way", and the moist and warm conditions in the lung were just right for it to sprout and grow.

Sveden said he had not felt anything growing in his chest, only that he was coughing a lot.

He underwent surgery to remove the pea, and is now recovering at home.

He said he was very amused when the first meal he had in the hospital after his surgery had peas as the main vegetable. He said he just laughed to himself as he ate them.

His friends have also seen the funny side, they sent him canned peas and pea seeds when he got home.

His wife said:

"God has such a sense of humor. It could have been just nothing, but it had to be a pea, and it had to be sprouting."

Sveden said he doesn't know what might have happened if the pea had gone to full term: he might have ended up working for the Jolly Green Giant, he joked.

" I think the thing that finally dawned on me is that it wasn't the cancer," said Sveden.

Japanese Should Be Drinking To Stave Off Radiation Poisoning

As the new week starts and the tragic Japanese earthquake's dust settles and tsunami waves recede back to the oceanic depths, a study from 2008 states that drinking red wine to neutralize toxic effects from potential nuclear plant breeches may be the way to go.

After the Chernobyl nuclear disaster of Ukraine in April, 1986 people were advised to drink red wine or vodka in order to neutralize radio-active toxic effects. A study by the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 2008 concluded that Resveratrol, the natural antioxidant commonly found in red wine and many plants, might offer protection against radiation exposure, and when altered with acetyl, resveratrol administered before radiation exposure proved to protect cells from radiation in mice.

Joel Greenberger, M.D., professor and chairman of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine says:

"New, small molecules with radio protective capacity will be required for treatment in case of radiation spills or even as countermeasures against radiological terrorism. Small molecules which can be easily stored, transported and administered are optimal for this, and so far acetylated resveratrol fits these requirements well. Currently there are no drugs on the market that protect against or counteract radiation exposure."

Radiation sickness is generally associated with acute (a single large) exposure. Nausea and vomiting are usually the main symptoms. The amount of time between exposure to radiation and the onset of the initial symptoms may be an indicator of how much radiation was absorbed, as symptoms appear sooner with higher doses of exposure.

The symptoms of radiation sickness become more serious, and the chance of survival decreases, as the dosage of radiation increases. A few symptom free days may pass between the appearance of the initial symptoms and the onset of symptoms of more severe illness associated with higher doses of radiation. Nausea and vomiting generally occur within 24 to 48 hours after exposure to mild doses of radiation. Radiation damage to the intestinal tract lining will cause nausea, bloody vomiting and diarrhea. This occurs when the victim's exposure is 200 rems or more. The radiation will begin to destroy the cells in the body that divide rapidly. These include blood, GI tract, reproductive and hair cells, and exposure also harms the DNA and RNA of surviving cells. Headachefatigue, and weakness are also seen with mild exposure.

Moderate exposure is associated with nausea and vomiting beginning within 12 to 24 hours after exposure. In addition to the symptoms of mild exposure, feverhair loss, infections, bloody vomit and stools, and poor wound healing are seen with moderate exposure.

Nausea and vomiting occur in less than one hour after exposure to severe doses of radiation, followed by diarrhea and high fever in addition to the symptoms of lower levels of exposure.

Very severe exposure is followed by the onset of nausea and vomiting in less than 30 minutes followed by the appearance of dizziness, disorientation, and low blood pressure in addition to the symptoms of lower levels of exposure. Severe exposure is fatal about 50% of the time.

Longer term exposure to radiation, at doses less than that which produces serious radiation sickness, can induce cancer as cell cycle genes are mutated. The probability cancer will develop is a function of radiation dose. In radiation-induced cancer the disease, the speed at which the condition advances, the prognosis, the degree of pain, and every other feature of the disease are not functions of the radiation dose to which the person is exposed.

Tips to get pregnant faster

Now that you've planned and made up your mind to get pregnant, you wish it happens as soon as possible! However, don't get impatient if it takes time. There are a couple of things you should do and some things that you should avoid to increase your chances.

Once you've made up your mind about having a baby, visit a gynaecologist to get a check-up done. There's a lot you need to learn and know about pregnancy and getting your doubts cleared by an expert is a good idea. Ask your doctor about prenatal vitamins that contain folic acid, which will decrease your risk of having a babywith neural tube defects. If you have any medical problems, they need to be brought under control before you become pregnant.

Familiarise yourself with your cycle. Each woman is different. Remember that ovulation is the best time to get pregnant and symptoms of ovulation include changes in the cervical mucus such as a thin watery, mucus-like discharge. There are several ovulation prediction kits available in the market that can tell you the best time to get pregnant.

While some people claim certain positions are best for getting pregnant, there is no real evidence that agrees with this. While the missionary position is favoured by many, sitting or standing makes it difficult for the sperm to travel upstream. Stay in bed for 15 to 20 minutes after having sex and avoid going to the bathroom, too.

Just because you're in a hurry to get pregnant doesn't mean you should have sex all the time. Sometimes this could result in your man's sperm count getting depleted due to constant ejaculation. Give it a break sometimes. Ensure your man avoids wearing tight-fitting clothes and spends little time in the jacuzzi.

Stress is one of the biggest problems that will stop you from getting pregnant. Besides wrecking havoc on ovulation, it can also cause sexual dysfunction and performance anxiety in men. Indulge in something that relaxes you. Meditation, breathing exercises, soothing music can all help you lower stress levels. Make sure you get moderate exercise. Too much will cause problems during ovulation. Experts recommend walking for 30 minutes thrice a week. Also watch what you eat. If you're overweight, you preferably need to lose some pounds before you attempt to have a baby.
